MDS Construction has been successfully carrying out High Profile construction projects for over 25 years. Challenges
What problems were you trying to solve before LiveCosts?
Obviously, we have a number of construction sites. So, our biggest challenge was to pull out costing reports. My intial theory behind installing LiveCosts was to get a proper PO system up and running becuase we did not have one of those. So, LiveCosts was an added bonus as it helped with the PO’s. Also, we can process the invoices that connects with our QuickBooks accounts program which cuts down the double-handling of stuff.
How did LiveCosts help overcome your challenges?
So, it helped solve the challenge by producing the PO’s and as the invoices come in, they are matched to a PO and we knew what job the material was for or subcontractor. It evovled from that but it is actually quite a detailed program so when I intially looked at it, I wanted it to help with the processing of invoices and if it did that much, I would have been a happy bunny but it helped with a lot more as it has a huge background functionality of cost reports, labour, tracking and budgeting and it is goin to tell you if you are under or over budgeted. So, it improved the whole aspect of cost control on a job.

The biggest tangible result we have discovered is that the invoices are being checked before they are approved and we are capturing any overcharge on subcontractor’s material etc. The team is responsible for putting in the labour and we are capturing where they are as supposed to where they should be.

I would absolutely recommend LiveCosts to other companies. Particularly, if you have no systems in place, you should consider LiveCosts. Certainly, if you are doing more than one job, I would highly recommend it to keep your cost control in place per job.

Our business has grown a lot over the past few years, and we’re handling more projects than ever before. It’s hard to say exactly how much time we’ve saved, but the improvements have made a big difference. Things run more smoothly now, and we have better control and a clearer view of our work. The benefits have been really clear for us.
